Rules for Visitors The following are the rules for those visiting the forests of Solovki: 1. Walking in the forests of Bolshoi (Great) Solovetsky Island is allowed only after a briefing by and permit issued by the local forestry office. For groups permits are issued to the guide. 2. Tourist and sightseeing visits to the reserve areas of Parusny, Zayatskie, Great and Small Muksalma and Anzer Islands must be authorised by the Solovetsky Museum and Reserve or the Monastery. Visitors should be organised in groups and issued with a Solovetsky forestry office permit. Tourist visits to the other islands of the Archipelago are prohibited. 3. Unauthorised camping is prohibited as well as the lighting of fires and smoking outside the designated areas. Permits for camping in the designated areas can be obtained from the forestry office at Severnaya street, 14/1. 4. The following activities are prohibited on the territory of Solovki and in its forests: - commercial picking or processing of plants and vegetables, breaking off branches, unauthorised felling; - littering lakes and forests (all litter, bottles, cans, glass, utensils, paper, should be taken to the village or placed in the special bins provided along tourist routes); - damaging ant hills, birds’ nests, animal burrows and habitat.5. Forests may be closed to visitors at periods of high fire risk. Damage to the forest may incur fines or criminal procedures. |
